Guidance for Flexible Workers

This information sheet contains essential information you need to know whilst you are working for us at the clients premises. If you have any further queries, please contact your consultant.

Absence from work

There will be times when you will not be able to attend your assignment through illness, injury or personal reasons, and we accept that this can happen occasionally. It is essential that you contact your local office at least two hours before your start time if you are unable to attend, we will then contact the client for you.

Rules, Policy and Procedures

You must comply with client's rules, policies and procedures, which have been brought to your attention by them when working on their premises. Do not make or receive personal calls unless it is urgent and then only after checking with your supervisor. Flex Recruitment are happy to pass on messages from our offices. Please take particular notice of security arrangements, parking, smoking, breaks etc. You should refer to the Terms of Engagement, which outlines further obligations for Temporary Workers.

Dress and Timekeeping

You must always be dressed appropriately i.e. clean and tidy with appropriate footwear. Some of our client’s working environments require working closely with others. To save you embarrassment and for the comfort of your fellow workers, we would ask that you pay close attention to your personal hygiene. If safety footwear is necessary; remember it is for your own safety. Failure to comply could mean that you are asked to leave site. Please remember that punctuality is essential so leave ample time for your journey. If you are unsure of a client's location, please check with us before the assignment and always take our telephone number with you. If unavoidable circumstances mean you will be at all late, telephone us immediately so we can warn the client in advance.

Timesheets/Grids

These are completed and then signed at the end of each week by the client for whom you are working. Hours are rounded up or down to the nearest quarter of an hour. Remember that you are only paid for the hours that you work, and that clients will expect you to take a lunch break unless they state otherwise. Overtime is not paid unless previously agreed with the client - your consultant will advise you of the client's individual overtime policies. Remember the client can only verify the hours that you have worked if you sign in and out, if so requested.

Please note that we run our payroll on Monday. The client will fax/email us a signed copy of your timesheet, if this fails to arrive we will be unable to pay you until the following week, although we will endeavour to chase on your behalf – it is in your interest to ensure that this is done. Pay is credited directly into your bank account on Fridays and a detailed payslip is sent to your home address by the end of the week. Please let us know immediately if your address changes whilst you are temping.

P45's

As soon as you start temping through us remember that we must have your P45 to ensure that you are taxed correctly. Without a P45 you will be expected to complete a P46, which is used for tax purposes. Students please note that if you are working during term time you will be taxed, as it is considered part time work.
